Community mural project.
Engage | Family & Building Community
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." — Helen Keller
Objective
Empower families and community members to unleash their shared creativity by guiding them through a collaborative mural project that transforms public space and deepens local connection.
Facilitation Strategies:
• Partner with a local community center or school to have families paint sections of a portable wooden panel mural that can be permanently installed at a neighborhood public park.
• Host a "Design & Dine" family evening where community members sketch their ideas onto canvas tiles, which are later assembled into a unified larger artwork during site stand-downs.
• Organize an interactive "Paint-by-Number" public wall session during Construction Inclusion Week, encouraging site workers and local residents to collaborate on filling in predefined sections.
• Set up a mobile storytelling booth next to the painting site, allowing participants to record their thoughts on community and belonging while contributing brushstrokes to the mural.
