Workforce Development:
Building the
2026 Industry
The construction industry in 2026 is at a pivotal crossroads. With a demand for 350,000+ net new workers this year alone, and around 450,000+ by next year, our ability to attract, train, and retain a diverse workforce is no longer just a social goal, it is a business imperative for survival and growth.
Closing the workforce gap requires more than just more people; it requires an industry-wide transformation.

In 2026, the construction industry faces a net need for nearly half a million new workers. But the "labor shortage" is a symptom, not the disease. The reality is that we are competing with every other high-tech industry for the best minds. To win, we must move beyond the "way we’ve always done it."
Construction Inclusion Week is a call for a unified industry-wide transformation. We don't just need more people on site; we need a cultural infrastructure shift that keeps them there.
CIW's mission is to strengthen recruitment and retention strategies, creating clear, accessible pathways that secure the industry’s future and offer the next generation a career defined by stability, innovation, and purpose.
