Appreciation walls.
Retain | Workplace Culture
"I have always believed that the way you treat your employees is the way they will treat your customers, and that people flourish when they are praised." — Sir Richard Branson
Objective
Empower employees to overcome feelings of underappreciation by establishing dedicated recognition spaces, positioning leadership as trusted guides to foster a culture of retention and belonging.
Facilitation Strategies:
• Set up a physical "Appreciation Wall" whiteboard in high-traffic site areas (like breakrooms or jobsite trailers) with color-coded Post-it notes for peer-to-peer kudos.
• Create a digital "Shoutout Board" on the company intranet where field and office employees can post photos and stories of teammates exemplifying core values.
• Launch a daily toolbox talk segment during Construction Inclusion Week dedicated to spotlighting a different crew member's contributions and story.
• Distribute physical "Kudos Cards" during safety orientation for workers to give to peers who foster psychological safety and team belonging.
